Creative Innovation of Undip Thematic KKN Students Makes Hand-Rolled Cigarettes with Extra Coffee to Improve Taste and Aroma

Pemalang | – Indonesia is the country with the 8th largest number of smokers in the world. The potential of cigarettes is very high due to high demand. Along with the times, there are more and more variations to increase the selling price of cigarettes.

Therefore, Diponegoro University Thematic KKN students made an innovation in cigarettes by adding extra coffee to improve the taste and add the aroma of coffee that is widely liked by many people.

"In making it, this cigarette uses coffee from Pulosari District, Pemalang Regency. This village is located in a highland area so it is known to have fertile soil and is one of the best coffee producers. However, unfortunately the potential of coffee has not been utilized optimally", said Muhammad Rizky Ramadhan, Undip Thematic KKN Student, Vocational School, Department of Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology Study Program, Wednesday (25/9/2024).

In this case, we use coffee as an alternative use of coffee beans to make Hand-Rolled Cigarettes with Extra Coffee.

"As for the robusta type of coffee beans, the reason for choosing it is because robusta coffee beans have a stronger coffee character with a more bitter taste and a very fragrant coffee aroma, so this type of coffee beans is suitable for making coffee cigarettes, explained Muhammad Rizky Ramadhan.

By adding coffee to these cigarettes, it can effectively increase their selling power because they have advantages in taste and aroma compared to other products," concluded Muhammad Rizky Ramadhan.

During his visit, Dr. Ir. Fahmi Arifan, S.T., M.Eng., IPM as the Field Supervisor, also added that, "This coffee cigarette is expected to be one of the innovations that can be utilized by MSMEs and can prove that coffee can not only be used as a drink but also has more potential".

Of course, with this innovation, Pulosari Village can not only utilize the abundant coffee potential, but also provide practical solutions for residents.

"The economic impact is also expected to be felt by the Tugu Juang Coffee UMKM, which will get new opportunities in utilizing their coffee products. The creative ideas of the Undip Thematic KKN 2024 students provide real examples of how utilizing local natural potential can produce innovative solutions that benefit the community," concluded Fahmi Arifan.
